Acer equip New Laundry for Warwick University13/08/2004Washing and drying 2,500 sets of bedding during term time is a tall order for any on-premise laundry, so, when the University of Warwick commissioned ACER Equipment Ltd to help plan and specify a new laundry facility, Miele washers and dryers were top of the wish-list for linen care and after sales service.
ACER’s brief was to recommend equipment and layout for a new-build laundry facility, which would make best use of space and optimise efficiency. Miele Professional equipment suited the University’s requirements exactly and, as Energy Efficiency was also a prime consideration, the inclusion of gas heated washer extractors was pivotal in choosing Miele. The new laundry is now, equipped with an impressive line up comprising two high capacity WS5320 32kg gas heated washers, two WS5191 19kg washers, two T6751 dryers and two T6551 22kg dryers.
Diane Reed, Senior accommodation officer at the University states ‘We decided to purchase Miele professional washing machines and tumble dryers because we run a large laundry service, washing 2,500 sets of bedding in term time for students and for other hospitality guests in the holiday period. Our previous machines lacked capacity and had become unreliable, making our job much harder. We had to select a brand known for reliability and efficiency.’
Will Freeman, ACER’s M.D. reports ‘The University outlined their buying criteria in our opening discussions. They needed a name that they could trust, high efficiency, low operating costs, a specification which was environmentally acceptable with low noise levels and of course reliability. Miele longevity, through engineering excellence, is legendary, and the availability of Gas heating for washers enabled us to meet the efficiency angles. A five year maintenance agreement completed the picture for planned costs.”
All four washing machines share the unique, fully programmable, ‘Profitronic’ controls. This enabled ACER to create bespoke programmes to suit the particular needs of the University and copy them down to each machine. The result is superb wash quality whilst minimising energy, water and detergent costs. High spin speeds with precise timing, ensure low residual moisture and efficient drying.
Miele’s Tectronic tumbler dryers also have special features, which have proven invaluable to the University. All Programme parameters can set to suit the application. Temperatures, reversing sequences, residual moisture levels etc can all be adjusted and fine tuned to minimise creasing and ensure that sheets do not get tangled in the drying process.
Miele’s laundry equipment is designed to last 25,000 working hours, so with less down time, energy efficiency and the availability of planned maintenance it soon becomes apparent that investing in Miele provides Best Value.
